Richard J. Doherty has served since 2005 as the President of the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in Massachusetts (AICUM), representing the interests of 59 independent colleges and universities throughout Massachusetts and the 275,000 students who attend them.

 

In this capacity, he advocates for increased need-based student aid as well as additional biomedical and other research support from the Federal and state governments. He offers an important voice for sound tax policy and other public policies that promote and protect our higher education institutions.

 

Mr. Doherty previously served for 10 years as Senior Vice President of Public Affairs for the Caritas Christi Health Care System. From 1988-1994, Mr. Doherty was a Senior Consultant for McDermott/O’Neill & Associates and from 1981-1988, he served as Director of State Relations for Harvard University. He was also the Communications Director for U.S. Senator John Durkin (D-N.H.) in Washington, D.C.

 

Mr. Doherty received his bachelor of arts degree cum laude from Harvard College and his master’s degree in public administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He serves or has served on the Boards of the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare; Shelter Inc.; the Jesuit Volunteer Corps: East;  the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau, and numerous higher education commissions and task forces.

Rob McCarron serves as Senior Vice President for the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in Massachusetts (AICUM), an organization that represents and advocates for the interests of 59 independent colleges and universities throughout Massachusetts and the students who attend them.

 

Mr. McCarron joined AICUM in July 2006, having previously served as Director of Legal Affairs for the Massachusetts House Committee on Ways and Means (2003-2006) and as Chief Legal Counsel for the Massachusetts House Joint Committee on the Judiciary. From 1999-2001, Mr. McCarron was counsel for MetLife Auto & Home Insurance Co., and from 1994-1999, he was an associate at Finneran, Byrne & Drechsler, L.L.P.

 

Mr. McCarron received his bachelor of arts degree in business/management from Clark University (1988) and his Juris Doctor cum laude from Suffolk University Law School (1993).

Kaitlyn Rodriguez serves as Vice President for Administration and Member Relations for the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in Massachusetts (AICUM). In addition to strengthening the existing relationships with AICUM’s 59 members, she manages AICUM’s affiliate membership program, which offers organizations the opportunity to support Massachusetts higher education. She also coordinates projects and initiatives such as Kids to College, a college introductory program for sixth-graders. Ms. Rodriguez plans all of AICUM’s events and ensures that AICUM is financially and operationally sound.

 

Before joining AICUM in May 2006, Ms. Rodriguez interned for the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare. She helped to organize the center’s 11th annual dinner for 1,700 attendees.

 

Ms. Rodriguez received her master’s degree in public administration, summa cum laude, with a nonprofit management concentration, at Suffolk University’s Sawyer Business School. She also has a bachelor’s degree in communication from Curry College.

Bradley Freeman is Vice President for Government Relations with the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in Massachusetts (AICUM), an organization that represents and advocates for the interests of 59 independent colleges and universities throughout Massachusetts and the students who attend them.

 

Mr. Freeman joined AICUM in June 2012, having previously served as Associate Director for O’Neill and Associates, where he provided government relations services to state and federal clients (2008–2012). Prior to working for O’Neill and Associates, Mr. Freeman served as a Regional Field Director in New Hampshire for former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson’s presidential campaign (2007–2008) and as a legislative aide to State Representative Alice Wolf (D-Cambridge) (2006–2007). Additional professional experience includes internships at O’Neill and Associates and the office of U.S. Representative Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island.

 

Mr. Freeman received his bachelor of arts degree in political science from Providence College (2006).
